↳ USER REPORT

The right name on screen. The wrong person gets the text.

A user reports that Siri on an iPhone XS Max with iOS 12.0.1 showed the intended contact but sent the message to a different relative with the same last name, while their other Apple devices handled the request correctly.

The record

In a thread opened October 10, 2018, a user says that when asking Siri on their iPhone XS Max, running iOS 12.0.1, to text a contact who shares a last name with others, Siri displayed the correct person yet delivered the message to someone else. Using only the first name reportedly led Siri to say it could not find the contact, while an iPad, a MacBook Pro, and an older iPhone on the same account worked fine. The poster tried the iOS 12.1 public beta without improvement. Ten days later they said that turning off the Ask Siri toggles and Dictation, then re-enabling Siri and Dictation, worked for the time being. This remains one user's account.
