◈ APPLE ANNOUNCEMENT

Siri takes the wheel with CarPlay.

Apple's CarPlay launch release made Siri the main way to use the iPhone in the car. Drivers would hold a steering wheel button to place calls, hear and dictate messages, get directions and play audio.

The record

Apple introduced CarPlay ahead of the Geneva motor show and built the experience around Siri. The release said drivers could hold a voice control button on the steering wheel to call contacts, return missed calls and play voicemail. Apple described Siri reading incoming messages aloud and taking dictated replies, giving spoken turn-by-turn directions, and pulling up music, podcasts and audiobooks on request. This entry records an announcement, not independent testing.
